With regrets, the development of the Dungeon of Doom game conversion has been discontinued.
The decision to terminate this project is based on several critical technical and practical considerations:
The dungeon design BASIC program with the Commodore 64 emulator in Windows proved to be buggy. Critical parts of the programming logic did not work correctly, creating a major development obstacle.
The conversion path to the ADAM platform was unclear and presented significant technical hurdles that could not be adequately resolved.
Many aspects of SmartBASIC could pose memory availability problems. The system's constraints would limit the scope and complexity of the intended game design.
Both dungeon and monster designs require sprite implementation. The challenges of saving and loading this data efficiently within ADAM's constraints became problematic.
The complete project consisted of three major components:
Research into existing adventure programs would have required significant time investment with uncertain results regarding compatibility and implementation feasibility.
While the graphical Dungeon of Doom project has been terminated, there may be potential for creating a fantasy text adventure based on similar concepts. This alternative approach would avoid the technical constraints that made the original project unfeasible.
Text-based adventures require significantly less memory and avoid the complex sprite management issues that plagued the original design concept.
Thank you to everyone who provided support and encouragement for this project. While the original vision could not be realized due to technical constraints, the experience provided valuable insights into ADAM development challenges and limitations.
