ADAMCON 12 or OC.....
When will all of this happen? Toronto in the summer is usually hot and sunny. It will be nice weather then, even if you don't go outside for the entire schedule. The middle of July is when Toronto area has hosted previous 'Cons, and so I'll keep with tradition.
What will we be doing? As always, AdamCon will be a combination of reunion and enriching sessions on everything from the latest in computer technology (with application relating to the Adam) to discussions of old favorite topics and trivia. It is as always a time of renewal of energy towards this great machine we call the "Adam Family Computer System". In the weeks leading up to an AdamCon there is always a flurry of activity, to prepare seminars on all topics Adam, and as a result the fall out stirs up Adam interest, and spurs more activity.
Why AdamCon 0C? Why you may ask is the twelfth annual international Coleco Adam computer convention called AdamCon 0Ch? Well, it turns out that the official name of the first AdamCon was somewhat jokingly called "01", which I always thought was hexadecimal. Well to prove it, I am calling this AdamCon 0C. It is a tribute to all of the engineers and programmers who ever worked on the Adam, or contributed to the Adam community. As is happening throughout society, the year 2000 is one to look back on past successes and especially future possibilities. That is the philosophy of this upcoming AdamCon.
ATTENTION: The convention date has been set for JULY 20-23.
Make your plans NOW and start saving those dollars!!!
Location! Location! Location! The dedicated AdamCon staff are searching the Greater Toronto Area for the perfect venue. Because the convention is still in the future, we hope to have jet packs, Virtual Reality goggles and gloves for everyone who attends. We are still researching for pricing on those components. The cost for this AdamCon is planned to be $300 US for a regular full delegate sharing a room for 4 nights (Thursday night to Sunday night) including all breakfasts, lunches and of course the Banquet. The big project will be to premier the Coleco Adam repository -- a CD-ROM with all of the best PD, articles, information and guides for the Adam that we can assemble in one place. Your's To Discover The Tourism Ontario slogan is Ontario "Your's to Discover" -- and that applies to before and after the AdamCon. The Toronto Zoo (who just celebrated their 25th annivarsary), is among the 10 top zoos world wide. The tallest free standing building in the world is next to the stadium where the Blue Jays play. Just around the corner from Toronto are the wine regions of Ontario and of course world famous Niagra Falls.
Open casting call...... As with all AdamCons, I am looking for volunteers for all aspects of the conference. That includes speakers to give key notes, lectures or hands on lessons. Also, I am looking for a hardware wizard, and help with other before hand setup issues. Finally, I am looking for equipment that can be brought for the conference for the hands on lab.

Back in January I wrote up a pge on how to write Coleco Adam Super
Games(tape or disk based). It is built upon the presentation notes
for the last AdamCon. In it I've created the shell of a game called
"Mayan Adventure". It isn't really playable, but I've included lots
of documentation on how to write your own using the AdamEm emulator
andsome other programs that I've gotten from other sources. Take a
look:

In the rec.games.video.classic newsgroup, someone announced that they discovered some previously unknown ColecoVision prototype cartridges. They were from the label that Odyssey games (Magnavox game system) were sold for other platforms. I can't remember the names of the games or the company. :) If I can find the message, I'll post it for your perusal. The owner of the carts is distributing the ROM code for all to see.

On 2/16/2000, I received an e-mail from Troy Lukkarila, who claimed to have some prototypes created by Probe 2000, the name under which Odyssey was to market games for other systems such as the Coleco- vision. It turns out Troy's father was an engineer at Magnavox and worked on Odyssey products dating from the first "Odyssey 1" console through the never released Odyssey^3 Command Center. Troy still has a bunch of stuff from Odyssey/Probe 2000, including at least two prototypes that had never been discovered before: Creatures and Caverns and Power Lords for the Colecovision.
Troy described the games in detail in his e-mails to me, so I've included them on my website (URL below). And before you ask, Troy has tentatively agreed to send the protos somewhere, probably to Sean Kelley, to get the ROMs dumped! :)

the adam was one of the first computers i had (ever heard of the nabu network? i was using that before i got my adam) and it's what i learned on, when i was 12 or 13. i now live in japan with my wife and have started up an english and computer school. so after 10 years i will have an adam computer again (two actually) in a couple more months. i'll be adding them to my computer lab which consists right now of some 486's that i put alot of work into.
i've also got some software on order and i will be using the two adams to teach SmartLogo to children as it serves as an excellent introduction to computers.
i'd like to decompile logo to add a command to it and was wondering if anyone would know of the best approach to this. ie: what decompiler is recommended, and a decent programming reference. i've got some experience with intel assembler, so i'm not afraid digging into things.
so whereabouts are you from?

i've been trying like hell to find ron mitchell's address. i used to be part of the adam user friendly group in ottawa, canada (that's where i'm from) and if i remember correctly and it's the same ron mitchell, he's the one that was running it for a very long time.
i've actually stumbled across your web page a few times during the various net searches that i've been doing. nice. i read with interest about the adamcon stuff.

I just replied to James this morning. Had to scratch my head a little, because I remember him only vaguely. He was a member of the ADAM User Friendly Group in Ottawa BEFORE I took it over in 1986. He attended only a couple of meetings after that, and I think he was about 13 or 14 at the time. Remember his Dad dropping him off and picking him up afterwards. He was indeed very interested in LOGO, and he wrote a series of articles about it. Good stuff. Even Guy Cousineau was impressed.
Anyway, thanks for the friendly reply. I got my machines mixed up (again) and only just got to seeing James' original message this morning.

i don't recall but it may have been scott that i was joking to about my having the only two adams in japan once they get here.
so, just out of curiosity, i've started doing searches on the japanese search engines on coleco and adam to see what turns up and i found the following:

so there are at least a few people over here that are familiar with it. i'm going to grab the pages so that we have a copy and will get around to translating them sometime "in the near future" or thereabouts!. they won't be much to view if your machine can't display japanese but i thought you and others might find it interesting. if i can get enough info, perhaps i can put together a small article about the adam in japan.

This month we have another mixed bag of tricks for you. First we have some text files grabbed from the Coleco ADAM news list on the internet. Then we have a rather interesting disk full (or at least I thought they were interesting and useful) of a PD set of programs to help you put multiple self booting EOS programs onto 1 single media WITH the ability to boot them one by one off that same disk; no more recopying each to another separate disk before being able to use them. Seems like I have seen a program to do such a thing, but I don't belive it came from the SmartBASIC realm and was as easy to use as this one is.
I am including the announcement of last month concerning the upcoming ADAM convention - ADAMCON OC as a reminder to ya'll that there WILL BE another ADAM convention this JULY, held in the immediate Toronto, Canada area. Now, don't let the fact that it is in Canada put you off; the Canadian users AND the Cnadian government would LOVE to have you visit their country. Matter of fact, before ADAMCON 11 last year near Seattle, we ventured into Canadian territory on Victoria Island. The scenery was FANTASTIC, the people superbly friendly, and for us (US) the prices were great after considering the currency exchange rate. I hope we get to go back to that area soon, but having been to Toronto a few years back, this summer will also be an oustanding adventure also!!!
Anyway, enjoy the disk and KEEP IN MIND that the convention and your ADAM need some consideration too!! CHEERS !!!!!

Oh, the rest of the files are pertaining to the PD programs this month. TDOS users will have to bring side B: of the disk over to EOS first; EOS users can simply read the DOC files on the disk and they will explain the setup to you.
