Notes

A ColecoVision fitted with both RGB and composite output, done neatly enough that the console still reads as original.

Why RGB

  • Composite carries the whole picture on one wire and the display has to separate it again, which is where the softness and the colour smearing come from.
  • RGB keeps the three colour signals apart from start to finish. On a machine generating flat blocks of colour, the difference is very visible.

Why both

  • Not every display takes RGB, and not every setup wants a scaler in the way. Having composite as well means the console works with whatever is to hand.

Yurkie extended his modification work to RGB, VGA and HDMI outputs by 2018, so this sits at the more ambitious end of it.
