A pause switch for the ColecoVision, which has none from the factory, with the console's power LED pressed into service as the indicator.

How the pause works

  • The switch pulls the WAIT line of the Z80 low, which stops the processor where it stands. Everything halts, so it works on any game rather than on ones written to expect it.

What the LED does

  • Lit steadily when the console is on and running.
  • Flashing while paused, at a rate the installer can set anywhere from 0.6 to 3.3 Hz.

Ikrananka announced the kit on the AtariAge forums in September 2019 and later opened the whole design - board files and installation instructions are on GitHub, so anyone can make one. That is worth noting beside the several other pause mods in this catalogue: this is the one whose mechanism is documented.
