The Coleco Flash Pro (CFP) is a modern ColecoVision flash cartridge designed as a more advanced companion to the PiColeco.
Described by its developer as the PiColeco's “big brother,” the Coleco Flash Pro uses an STM32-based architecture and loads ColecoVision software from removable microSD storage.
Where the PiColeco is primarily intended for games up to 64 KB with support for some 128 KB titles, the Coleco Flash Pro was designed to support ColecoVision games as large as 1 MB.
Games are stored on a microSD card, eliminating the need to individually program the cartridge each time a different title is required.
The combination of microSD storage and significantly greater supported ROM size makes the Coleco Flash Pro more appropriately classified as an SD multicart or advanced flash cartridge than as a conventional programmable cartridge.
The cartridge is built around an STM32 microcontroller, which provides the processing necessary to manage the cartridge, microSD storage and game loading.
At the time the Coleco Flash Pro was first publicly shown, development was nearing completion but several remaining bugs were still being addressed before commercial release.
The announced selling price was $39.99.
