Notes

The MIB238 expansion card with WiFi on board, running ZiModem - firmware that answers to the Hayes AT commands a 1980s terminal program already speaks, and carries the connection over WiFi instead of a phone line.

What it means

  • The ADAM's own communications software works unaltered. It thinks it is dialling a modem; the modem is a radio.
  • Everything the plain MIB238 offers is still there: two RS-232 ports, a parallel port, a boot PROM socket and a memory addressor port.

It is the same trick behind the WiModem and FujiNet adapters used across retro computing - the machine keeps its 1983 view of the world, and the hardware quietly does something else. Eric Pearson's design; John Lundy produces it.
