Serial Cable

The lead that takes an RS-232 serial port from an ADAM expansion card out to a connector on the back of the machine.

Why separately

• Cards such as the MIB238 carry their serial ports on internal headers. The cable is what reaches from there to a comm panel, and it has to match both.

What serial buys

• A WiFi modem - a WiModem232 or similar - which is how the machine reaches the internet while believing it is dialling a telephone.
• A terminal, or a modern computer standing in for one, which is how disk and tape images are moved on and off.
