Notes

A later revision of the FujiNet network adapter, built to serve both the Coleco ADAM and 8-bit Atari computers.

What FujiNet is

  • A device that presents itself to the host as whatever peripheral is being asked for - disk drives, tape drives, a printer - while also being a genuine network device, mounting images from remote TNFS servers over WiFi.
  • It began on the Atari and was ported to the ADAM, which is why one board can serve both: the emulation is in firmware, and the bus interface is the part that differs.

Why that matters

  • A shared design across machines means shared development. Work done for one platform's FujiNet benefits the rest, which is unusual in retro hardware and is much of why the project has gone as far as it has.

The ADAM version connects over ADAMnet and takes its power from the bus. Masteries is one of several builders producing FujiNet hardware from the project's open designs.
