Notes

MicroFox's IDE boot driver in a cartridge rather than a PROM - the same code, reached a different way.

Why both forms exist

  • A boot PROM needs a socket, and not every ADAM has a card that provides one.
  • A cartridge needs only the cartridge slot every machine has. Plug it in, switch on, and the machine starts from the IDE disk.

What it does

  • Teaches EOS about a disk it was never built to look for, since the ADAM's own firmware knows about ADAMnet drives and nothing else.

The ADAM community has since combined boot configurations for several hard disk systems - ADAMnet, SASI/SCSI, MFM and IDE - into single ROMs that let the user choose, with MicroFox's own work among the sources for that.
