3 1/4" 256K Floppy Disk Dive - PROTOTYPE

A disk drive Coleco built for the ADAM around Dysan's 3.25-inch format and never shipped. The media came from Dysan; the ADAMnet interface that would have let the ADAM talk to it was Coleco's own work.

Why it went nowhere

• Coleco abandoned it in favour of the 5.25-inch single-sided drive, which is what reached customers.
• The 3.25-inch format found almost no adoption anywhere. Howard Eglowstein, a senior software engineer at Coleco, recalled Seequa as the only company he knew of shipping machines with it.

ONLY TWO PROTOTYPES are documented as having existed inside Coleco. One was fitted with an ADAMnet controller by the model shop and later passed into Joel Lagerquist's collection; the other went to a Coleco employee. This catalogue holds two entries for the drive, which is worth reconciling against that count.
