3 1/2" 720K Disk Drive Conversion

A conversion putting a 3.5-inch drive on the ADAM at 720K - more than four times what the machine's own 5.25-inch drive holds, and on media that was still being manufactured long after 5.25-inch disks stopped being sold.

Why it mattered

• The ADAM shipped with 160K single-sided 5.25-inch drives, and 256K data packs before that.
• 720K is the standard double-density 3.5-inch format of the PC world, so disks and drives were cheap and everywhere.

Coleco had tried a smaller format itself - the 3.25-inch Dysan prototype catalogued here - and abandoned it. This is a third party arriving at the same idea with a format that actually survived.
