A modification adding genlock to the machine's video - the ability to lock its picture to an external video signal so the two can be mixed.

What genlock is for

  • Two video sources will not combine unless their timing matches exactly. Genlock makes one follow the other.
  • Once locked, computer-generated text and graphics can be laid over live video - titles, captions, scoreboards.

In the 1980s that was the difference between a home computer and a piece of video production equipment, and it is why the Amiga found its way into television studios. A genlocked ADAM or ColecoVision is the same idea on a much smaller machine.
