Notes

A 1.44MB floppy drive for the ADAM, connected over ADAMnet - the largest floppy capacity the machine was ever given, against the 160K Coleco shipped.

Why it stands out

  • Most third-party ADAMnet floppy drives were reverse-engineered versions of Coleco's own 160K single-sided drive. This is not one of those.
  • 1.44MB is the standard high-density 3.5-inch PC format, so media was cheap and everywhere - which is exactly what a machine outliving its manufacturer needs.

What it takes

  • An ADAMnet drive is not a dumb mechanism. It carries its own processor and answers commands on the bus, so a new capacity means new firmware as well as a new mechanism - which is why Micro Innovations' drive EPROMs are catalogued separately.

Micro Innovations was among the most capable of the ADAM's third parties, alongside Eve and Orphanware.
