Notes

A double-sided 5.25-inch drive for the ADAM at 320K - twice the capacity of Coleco's own single-sided 160K mechanism, on the same size of disk.

Why 160K

  • Coleco fitted a single-sided drive to save money. The capacity followed from that decision rather than from any limit of the format.
  • Coleco prototyped a 360K double-sided drive itself and never shipped it; that prototype is catalogued here.

So third parties finished the job. Eve Electronics sold a conversion for existing drives, E&T Software wrote the EPROM for it, and Micro Innovations built the drive outright - all three approaches are in this catalogue.

An ADAMnet drive carries its own processor, so capacity is decided by firmware as much as by the mechanism.
