A hard disk for the ADAM, using IDE drives and connected over ADAMnet.

What it gives

  • Storage measured in megabytes rather than kilobytes, and available instantly instead of after winding tape.
  • IDE was the ordinary PC disk interface for two decades, so the drives were cheap then and can be replaced with CompactFlash cards now - which is what most surviving installations use.

Why over ADAMnet

  • Hanging the disk off the same bus as the keyboard and drives means the machine addresses it as another peripheral, with no change to how EOS sees the world.
