Why SCSI

  • In the 1980s it was the serious disk interface - faster than the alternatives, and able to carry several devices on one chain.
  • For a machine whose own storage was a 256K tape, attaching a SCSI disk was a considerable leap.

What has happened since

  • Micro Innovations SASI and SCSI cards have resurfaced and been worked on again in the ADAM community, with modern SCSI emulators standing in for drives that no longer spin.
  • Boot configurations have been written to let one ROM handle whichever hard disk system a machine has - ADAMnet, SASI/SCSI, MFM or IDE.

SASI is SCSI's predecessor, and the two appear together in this hardware. WHICH OF THE TWO THIS UNIT IS wants confirming from the card.
