Notes

The second of Micro Innovations' PowerMATE hard disk subsystems for the ADAM, in 10, 20 or 40MB.

What a PowerMATE is

  • A hard disk and its controller, taking one expansion slot and needing no modification to the console.
  • Storage measured in megabytes on a machine whose own medium was a 256K tape, and available instantly rather than after winding.

MFM and RLL

  • Two ways of encoding data onto the same drives. RLL fits about half as much again onto the same platters, so the capacity depends on the controller as much as the mechanism.

Micro Innovations, of Reston, Virginia, built hardware for the ADAM after Coleco had left it, and the PowerMATE was among its first products.
