The low-cost attempt

  • Micro Innovations tried to bring the price of an ADAM hard disk within reach by buying used drives in bulk.
  • Few of those drives worked. The losses were heavy enough that the company shelved an ADAMnet hard drive project it had in hand.

What 40MB meant

  • The ADAM's own storage was a 256K tape; 40MB is over a hundred and fifty times that, available instantly.
  • A PowerMATE takes one expansion slot and needs no modification to the console.

SURVIVING UNITS FROM THIS RUN ARE WORTH TESTING CAREFULLY given how they were assembled - which is a fact about the product's history rather than a criticism of it.
