Eprom: Clock Chip

The EPROM that teaches an ADAM about a real-time clock.

Why firmware

• The ADAM has no clock of its own, so nothing in EOS looks for one.
• Fitting the hardware is therefore only half the job: the machine has to be told the clock is there and how to read it, and that code lives in an EPROM.

What it buys

• Files written with real dates and times, rather than each one being typed in by hand or left blank.

Orphanware's real-time clock hardware is catalogued alongside this. That the two are separate entries is characteristic of this machine's after-market: hardware and the firmware that makes it usable were routinely sold apart, and one without the other does nothing.
