A 150-watt external power supply for the Coleco ADAM.

Why it is needed

  • The machine's power supply lives inside its daisy wheel printer. Without a working printer connected, the computer does not start.
  • An external supply bypasses the printer, which makes a printerless ADAM usable and spares a surviving printer the load.

Why 150 watts

  • The computer itself needs nothing like that. A supply this size is sized for the machine plus everything hung off it - hard disks, expansion cards, drives - which is what a heavily expanded ADAM becomes.
  • S.M. Video offered 200 and 285 watt versions as well, both catalogued here, which suggests customers really were running that much.
