What that tells you

  • A bare ADAM needs a small fraction of this. A supply this size is for a machine carrying hard disks, several expansion cards, multiple drives and everything else the after-market sold.
  • It is a good measure of how far people took these machines: by the late 1980s an ADAM could be running a hard disk, 512K of memory, an 80-column card and a serial interface at once.

Why external

  • The ADAM's own lives inside its printer, so no printer means no computer. An external supply ends that arrangement.
