The ADAM's memory console has three expansion slots and two drive bays, and no more. An owner with a hard disk, a memory expander, an 80-column card, a serial interface and a second drive has run out of machine.
A tower is what the PC world did about the same problem: more slots, more bays, more room for supplies.
