Why anyone would

  • ADAM keyboards fail, and a machine without one cannot be used at all. A replacement from another manufacturer's stock is a practical answer when the original is scarce.
  • Tandy machines were sold in enormous numbers through Radio Shack, so their keyboards were the easiest thing in America to find second-hand.

What it must do

  • Speak ADAMnet convincingly. The ADAM's own keyboard is a peripheral with its own Motorola 6801 processor, caching keystrokes and answering on the bus - so an adapter has to emulate that, not merely rewire a matrix.
