A cartridge that lets a Coleco ADAM record sound - sample it, store it and play it back - from 1990.

What it meant

  • The ADAM's own audio is a tone generator. Digitising means capturing real sound as data, which is a different thing entirely and was still novel on home computers at the time.
  • The cartridge carried both the hardware and the software to do it.

Why still known

  • The original is rare. Eric Pearson built the Dynomite II as a replacement, using Trisyd's own 1990 software, and published it on GitHub; Lundy Electronics sells it.
  • So a piece of 1990 software from a small company is still running on hardware made in the last few years.
