Trisyd's data pack copier, from 1987 - hardware for making new tapes with digital formatting on the Coleco ADAM.

Why it mattered

  • The ADAM's digital data packs are its own medium, and blank ones had to be formatted before use. Formatting tape at 20 inches per second is not something the machine did quickly or reliably on its own.
  • Copying a pack was the other half: for a user group distributing software, or an owner backing up work, a copier is essential equipment.

Why still known

  • Lundy Electronics sells a MEGACOPY REDUX, a modern reproduction - which is a fair measure of how useful the original was.
