Notes

A device letting an ADAM answer the telephone by itself.

What that is for

  • Running a bulletin board. A machine that can only dial out is a terminal; one that can answer is a service other people call.
  • Early modems, including Coleco's own ADAMlink, did not necessarily answer a ringing line on their own - so hardware that detects the ring and picks up is what makes an unattended machine possible.

Why an ADAM

  • User groups ran bulletin boards on whatever they had, and by the late 1980s an ADAM with a hard disk and a 1200 baud modem - both of which Trisyd could supply - was a plausible host.
