Champ Adaptor No. 1 (supports 2 firebuttons)

Champ Electronics' keypad adapter is close to a duplicate of the Coleco hand controller's keypad, fitted with a 9-pin socket and a six-foot cable. An Atari-style joystick plugs into the socket, so the stick can be replaced while the numeric keypad a ColecoVision game expects stays where the player can reach it.

The two versions

• Firebuttons: the first adapter passed one firebutton only, so a game giving each button a different job - Cosmic Avenger is the usual test - could not be played properly. A later version passes both.
• Whether both buttons actually work also depends on the joystick attached to it.
• The keypad itself is unchanged either way; it is the pass-through that differs.
