Notes

The arcade stick people bought when the console's own controller wore out - and the best-regarded third-party joystick of its generation.

Why it was better

  • Wico made joysticks for arcade coin-op machines, and the Command Control uses the same mechanism: a steel shaft on leaf-spring contacts rather than the moulded plastic and membrane of a console controller.
  • Leaf switches have a positive click and last, which is exactly what the ColecoVision's own hand controller does not manage.

What it fits

  • Any nine-pin system of the period - Atari 2600, Commodore 64 and 128, Amiga, TI-99/4A and the ColecoVision.

What it cannot do

  • Supply the twelve-key keypad a ColecoVision game takes its options from, so a hand controller stays connected alongside it.
