Notes

An expansion module that would have let a ColecoVision play Mattel Intellivision cartridges. Coleco prototyped it and never released it.

What it meant

  • One console playing ColecoVision, Atari 2600 and Intellivision cartridges - every major library of the era on a single machine.
  • Working prototypes are reported to have been demonstrated at trade shows.

Coleco had already been sued by Atari over the 2600 adapter and settled by taking a patent licence, so the legal ground for a second such module was well understood by then. HOW FAR THIS ONE GOT, and why it was dropped, is not clearly recorded - the accounts are collectors' rather than Coleco's.
