What a refurbishment involves

• The A/V modification itself, buffering out the composite signal the console's modulator already generates.
• Rebuilding the power switch, which is a known weak point and shows up as glitched graphics or no picture.
• Cleaning the cartridge slot, resoldering faulty joints, and cleaning the controller housings and cords.

Why that combination matters

• A console with a dirty switch and dry joints will fail again whatever is done to its video. Doing the whole machine is the difference between a mod and a restoration.
