Why the programme mattered

• It is the ancestor of every achievement system since. There was no way for a console to record what you had done, so the proof was a photograph and the reward was a physical object.
• Each game had its own club and its own patch, so a collection of them is a record of what somebody actually played.

Pitfall II reached the ColecoVision as well as the Atari 2600 - and the ColecoVision version is generally held to be the better of the two.
