Activision Patch: River Raid

The patch for River Raid, awarded by Activision to players who reached a qualifying score.

How it worked

• Photograph the television with the score showing and post the picture to Activision. Back came the patch and membership of the game's club.

Why River Raid

• It was among Activision's biggest sellers and one of the games most associated with the patch programme - alongside Pitfall! and Kaboom! - so its patch is one of the more commonly seen.

River Raid was written by Carol Shaw, one of the first women to design and program a commercial video game, and it was published for the ColecoVision as well as the Atari 2600.
