The AT&T and Coleco modem was a planned 1983 joint venture project for an online interactive gaming service. It was meant to let users play two-player games over standard phone lines using a 300 baud modem. Announced in September 1983 as a partnership between AT&T's consumer division and Coleco Industries. Designed to connect users to a 900 flat-rate phone number to match players for arcade and strategy games. Projected to cost under $100 for the hardware The system was scheduled to launch in 1984, but it ultimately never launched or went into operation.
