This is a high-efficiency switching power replacement module for the ColecoVision Console System. Malfunctioning power supply? No power supply? No problem! Simply replace the old power jack with this power module and connect almost any 12VDC barrel jack power source, 10 Watt minimum power, but ideally 1Amp or higher recommended.
This power module provides a clean 5VDC rail up to 3A, and a clean -5VDC rail up to 40mA which is plenty for your original DRAM video memory chips. The 5VDC regulator is 85%-92% efficient, operates cool and will last for years. This is sufficient power for your CVS and cartridge, including front expansion devices.
To install: 1) simply cut the original four wires close to the original jack and remove 1/8" or 3mm of the insulation. 2) Give the ends a twist to prevent fraying before inserting into new power module. 3) Flux and tin the ends to make soldering easier. 4) Insert one wire at a time from the bottom and solder in place, matching the color with the hole. 5) Slide power module in place of original power jack.
To use: 1) Insert 12VDC power plug (center positive) 2) Connect 12VDC power brick to mains 3) Power-on as usual. It is recommended to disconnect the 12VDC power plug or brick when not in use.
Enjoy high efficiency power! Please note that the CVS requires a regulated 12VDC, do not use automotive 12V which often goes above 13V or even 14V when the engine alternator is operating. A power inverter or 12VDC regulator is required for automotive use. 12.36V is typical of most "12VDC" bricks and these work great.
