The iCode Duo Ultimate SE H1-COL is a modern USB controller interface designed specifically for original ColecoVision game controllers.
Rather than replacing the ColecoVision controller with a modern gamepad, the H1-COL allows original ColecoVision hardware to be used with modern computers, emulation systems and other USB-compatible gaming platforms.
The interface provides two independent DB9 controller ports and supports the original ColecoVision Hand Controller, including its digital joystick, two fire buttons and complete 12-key numeric keypad.
It also provides extensive support for the ColecoVision Super Action Controller, including its digital joystick, all four action buttons, 12-key keypad and analog Speed Roller.
The Super Action Controller's Speed Roller is translated into modern analog input and can also be configured to function as a USB mouse. Sensitivity, acceleration, orientation and other characteristics can be adjusted by the user.
Two controllers can be connected simultaneously, with each port maintaining independent controller and mapping configurations.
Controller input is converted into standard USB HID signals, allowing original ColecoVision controllers to be used with modern Windows, Mac and Linux computers as well as compatible gaming and emulation platforms.
Individual keypad keys and controller buttons can be remapped for use with modern software. The adapter also includes programmable buttons and multiple USB emulation modes.
Configuration and firmware updates are handled through iCodeHub, a browser-based WebHID application that does not require conventional software installation.
The ColecoVision controller presents challenges for conventional USB adapters because it combines a digital joystick, two fire buttons and a 12-key keypad. The later Super Action Controller adds four action buttons and an analog Speed Roller.
The H1-COL was designed specifically around these ColecoVision controller characteristics rather than simply treating the controller as a generic Atari-style joystick.
As a result, the adapter represents a modern preservation accessory that allows original ColecoVision controllers—including the specialized Super Action Controller—to remain usable with contemporary emulation and gaming hardware.
