In the CP/M Boot Cycle, the boot loader scans for available expansion memory, setting up a temporary RAM disk as drive M if extra memory is found. If present, the boot code reads the cartridge header and, if the values match a specific identifier, copies the cartridge contents into the RAM disk. This setup preloads the RAM disk with necessary code, effectively allowing users with memory expansion to boot CP/M programs with the cartridge automatically loaded. To access the RAM disk contents, users simply switch to drive M in CP/M. It's essential, however, to save any files stored on the RAM disk to a permanent storage medium before shutting down.
