Description

Checkers against the computer. You play yellow, starting on the near rows and moving up the board; the computer plays magenta, moving down, and it moves first. Men move one square diagonally forward, or jump an enemy piece diagonally forward onto the empty square behind it, taking it; after a jump the same piece may jump again, and you may stop a chain of jumps when you like. A man reaching the far row is crowned king and moves and jumps both ways. Jumps are never forced. The computer writes out each of its moves by row and column, and the squares you may move to are marked. Take every enemy piece or leave it no move to win; the computer wins the same way. A long run without a capture is called a draw.

Controls: Use either controller. The stick moves the cursor square by square; the left button picks one of your pieces, then a marked square to move to; the right button puts the piece back or ends a chain of jumps. On the title, up and down choose and a button starts.

ColecoVision version credited in the source to Claude (an AI made by Anthropic) for Amy Studio, in Amy, the language by Amy Bienvenu, 2026: a reimagined adaptation of the published rules. From COMPUTE!'s Gazette, February 1984: original Commodore 64 program (no author named in the issue). One BASIC listing served both the Commodore 64 and the VIC-20. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
