Description

A menu-driven adventure for one or two players. Two adventurers race to find the topaz, the ruby and the sapphire, and to rescue the brave Sir Gomar, kidnapped by the necromancer Sumogoratra and held in the Fortress of Forgotten Dreams deep in the copper mines. Each starts in the trophy room with 20 life, 1,000 gold and the resurrection spell. Explore, fight the thief, Sumogoratra, a dragon and other monsters, buy gear and spells at the trading post, and use a ladder, fishing rod, shovel, rope, mining car or wirecutters where they help. Dark rooms need a lantern, the river of fire an asbestos suit, and death sends you to Hades. Whoever lays the three gems and Sir Gomar in the unlocked trophy case wins.

Controls: Joystick only. The stick moves a flame over the words on screen and a button chooses; in a list, the right button means "nothing". With two players, each uses his own controller and turns alternate.

ColecoVision version credited in the source to Claude (an AI made by Anthropic) for Amy Studio, in Amy, the language by Amy Bienvenu, 2026: a reimagined adaptation of the published rules. From Ahoy! No. 50, February 1988: original Commodore 128 program by Cleveland M. Blakemore. Not printed in the magazine: a free bonus on the February 1988 Ahoy! Disk (the issue's page 61 notice describes it). Sequel to Dark Fortress (Ahoy! January 1987); the listing's title is "Dark Fortress ][" (version 2.3), subtitled Beyond the Copper Mines. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
