Description
A music toy, not a game. A xylophone of ten coloured bars plays an improvised tune over a two-voice oom-pah accompaniment, and the notes are chosen so that nothing ever sounds wrong. There are four modes. RANDOM plays a random note each beat. COMPOSE makes up new tunes from the improvisations it remembers. PLAY ALONG lets you strike the bars yourself with a mallet while the accompaniment plays. SHORT-TUNES plays sixteen ready-made 32-note improvisations, and then the Grand Improvisor says that is all he will play for now. A mallet strikes each bar as it sounds, the bar lights up and notes dance up from it. The tempo can be set to slow, normal or fast.
Controls: Use either joystick. On the menu, up and down choose and the button selects; left, right or the button change the tempo. In PLAY ALONG, left and right move the mallet and the button strikes a bar, which rings on while held. The right button goes back to the menu.
ColecoVision version credited in the source to Claude (an AI made by Anthropic) for Amy Studio, in Amy, the language by Amy Bienvenu, 2026: a faithful adaptation of the published rules. From COMPUTE!'s Gazette, April 1987, page 46: original Commodore 64 program by Donald Eddington. Not a game: a music toy. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
