Description

Two players, BLACK and WHITE, share a field with a lava vent between them. Lava creeps out of the vent one cell at a time in every direction, and a player it reaches, or who steps into it, is burnt and loses one of five lives; then a new round begins. The button switches building on and off: while building, a player moves more slowly and drops a brick on every step taken. A brick holds the lava back only for a while, glowing hotter through four colours as the lava presses on it before it melts and flows on. If both players are burnt at once, both lose a life. Whoever still has lives at the end wins, and going out together is a draw. A single player can take BLACK against a computer-controlled WHITE.

Controls: Joystick only. BLACK uses controller 1 and WHITE controller 2; in a one-player game either controller moves BLACK. The stick walks and a button switches building on or off. On the title, push up and down to choose a line, left, right or a button to change it, and press a button on START.

ColecoVision version credited in the source to Claude (an AI made by Anthropic) for Amy Studio, in Amy, the language by Amy Bienvenu, 2026: a reimagined adaptation of the published rules. From COMPUTE!'s Gazette, September 1988: original Commodore 64 program (no author named in the issue). Amy Studio's second build of this program, released alongside the first (#109 in this collection). Machine-language program from the issue's disk. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
