Description

You pilot a travelling family's starship from world to world. Four planets drift across space; fly alongside one and match its speed to settle into orbit. Gas giants refuel the ship and rocky planets top up the supplies, while thrust burns fuel and supplies run down with time. Running out of either ends the voyage. In orbit, press the button to land on a rocky planet, or a gas giant's moon or station. On the ground, choose what the family does: look around, ask questions, put on a show, offer to tinker, dicker, ask for help, take what you need, go back or resign. Every choice risks a mishap that costs a crew member. Fall below five crew and you are removed as pilot; reach 25 worlds to win.

Controls: Use controller 1 or 2. The stick thrusts the ship in eight directions; in orbit, holding a push briefly leaves the orbit. Press a button while in orbit to land. On the ground and in menus, push up and down to choose and press a button to select.

ColecoVision version credited in the source to Claude (an AI made by Anthropic) for Amy Studio, in Amy, the language by Amy Bienvenu, 2026: a reimagined adaptation of the published rules. From Ahoy! No. 24, December 1985, page 18: original Commodore 64 program by Orson Scott Card. Adapted from 'Gypsy Starship' (title screen GYPSY PILOT), the program in Orson Scott Card's game-design feature article. Retitled Starfolk: the original's 'gypsy' family and its stereotyped texts were rewritten as a neutral starfaring family. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
