Word Find

A word-search puzzle. Words are hidden in a 20 x 20 grid of letters, running across, down or diagonally, forwards or backwards, and the words to find are listed beside the grid. Choose a theme, ANIMALS, FOOD, SPORTS, SPACE or COMPUTER, and how many words to hide, from 5 to 20. Move the box to the first letter of a word and mark it, then to the last letter and mark it again; the line you are marking shows in yellow. A found word turns green in the grid and in the list, while a wrong try locks the controls for a second. Find them all to win. With a time limit set, the clock counts down and any words not found are shown in red when it runs out; without one, the time taken counts up.

Controls: Use either controller. The stick moves the box (diagonals too); the left button marks the first and last letter of a word and the right button lets go. On the setup page, push up and down to choose a line and left and right to change it.

From COMPUTE!'s Gazette, December 1987: original Commodore 64 program (no author named in the issue). The listing ran on both the Commodore 64 and the 128. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
