Wumpus

A cave hunt by deduction. Twenty rooms are joined by tunnels, in a new layout every game. Somewhere lurk the wumpus, two superbats and two bottomless pits, and you carry seven arrows. In each room you see where its tunnels lead and feel the warnings: you smell the wumpus when it is one or two tunnels away, hear bats next door, or feel a draft from a pit. Walk through a tunnel, but beware: bats carry you off to a random room, a pit swallows you, and each move may wake the wumpus and send it wandering. To shoot, choose up to five rooms for the arrow's flight; if a room is not joined to the one before, the arrow takes a random tunnel. Hit the wumpus to win.

Controls: Either controller: left and right choose a tunnel and the left button walks through it. The right button takes out the bow; left and right pick a room number, the left button adds it to the arrow's path, down takes the last room back, and the right button looses the arrow. On the title, up and down choose and a button starts.

No. 38, February 1987: original Commodore 64 program by Marc Clifford. A COMAL 0.14 program on the COMAL flip side of the issue's disk; not found in the printed magazine. This is a modern homebrew adaptation, not a commercial Coleco release.
