Play it here
🎮 First time here? Map the controls before you play. The emulator does not know your keyboard yet, so the keys will do nothing until you set them. Open the emulator's own menu at the bottom left of the screen and choose your controls — you only do this once, and it is remembered.

Click the screen to give it the keyboard. Play fullscreen if you like — there is a Capture screen button in the top right corner, and Escape saves your screen as you leave. Playing needs no account - only putting a score on the board does.

Starts the emulator right here. Nothing is downloaded until you press it — about 1MB once you do, and cached after that.

Playing fullscreen? A Capture screen button sits in the top right corner, and pressing Escape saves your screen automatically as you leave. Either way that picture is the one sent with your score, however long you take typing it in afterwards. Not fullscreen? Use the button here while your score is on screen. Do none of it and the page photographs the screen when you submit.

Season 1, Round 1 starts today: Donkey Kong, on Skill 1, closing Sunday
15 September.

This is the first round the club has ever run, so a quick word on how it
works.

Play it in your browser from the round page, or on real hardware. Both
count exactly the same and neither gets extra credit. If you own the
cartridge, use it — and either build is fine, they play the same.

Send a picture of the screen with your score. It's encouraged, not
required — except for a record. If your score would take first place,
send a photo, because that's the number everybody else gets measured
against.

Rolled the counter? Say so when you submit. A rolled score reads low, so
the board would otherwise rank it beneath scores it beat. Everybody who
rolls shares first place.

Top score at the close takes 100 points, and everyone else scores against
it proportionally. Your round score also counts toward the permanent
Donkey Kong record, so you won't be asked to play it twice.

Now the part I actually want to hear about: where does it get you? Post
your score, post your superstitions, and ask somebody else how they got
theirs.

Good luck.

I did a run for it. I noticed the web browser has some issues. 1. it lags, the speed goes down sometimes. 2. It "glitches". Mario went from bottom of the stairs to the top of the stairs in one frame. This only happened once though (second platform). 3. I'm not sure it's me or the platsform, but when you start, and try to jump on the lowest platform, bottom left. I always seem to fall through. And also, when you climb up to your lady and there is a fireball up there. That does not seem possible in the web-version either. Just my two cents. Besides that, I love it :)

If this is referring to the Elevator Level (screen 3), this is a known bug in the original Donkey Kong release by Coleco which when dumped is a 24K rom image. You can't jump off the starting girder on the bottom left onto a moving elevator girder and will always fall thru it to your death.

Coleco quickly addressed some of the bugs like this one as well as optimized the game further and this cartridge version when dumped to a rom image is 16K in size.

As far as other oddities and slowdowns, this would point to an emulator issue as well as playing in a web browser... using full screen mode helps a lot over windowed on my Windows 10 laptop.

While I own reel cv, i try also the emulator.

Immediatly observe some very little lag and glitch. But wow, still, able to play those game so easilly is fun. Those little artifact doesn't make not to play
I also really appreciate all the shaders. Some shaders affect the lag though.

Overall, I love the site and this small competition
