How to identify it

Kenia is a company, not a country. Kenia Sociedad Anónima was the Buenos Aires firm that held the licence to sell the ColecoVision in Argentina, and its guarantee badge is printed on the front of every box it distributed. These cartridges have nothing to do with Kenya, and they are often mis-catalogued on that basis. Kenia 1 is the European CBS3 carton with one thing added. Everything above the foot - the pinstripe, the header bar, the inset artwork panel, the five languages each in their own colour - is the same printing that went to Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Kenia’s contribution is the third badge at the bottom right. It is the more numerous of the two Argentine designs, and the easier to mistake for a plain European box. In a listing photograph the foot is the only place the difference shows, which is worth knowing in both directions: a European CBS3 is sometimes sold as the rarer Argentine box, and an Argentine box is sometimes sold as an ordinary European one. The other design is Kenia 2. Argentina is better known on this site for its bootleg cartridges - Artkaris, EDU Juegos, Video Game Club, Zirok. Those were unlicensed copies made because official cartridges were hard to get. The Kenia boxes are the other half of that story: the official cartridges, licensed and guaranteed, that the bootlegs were competing with.
