How to identify it
No grey header bar and no pinstripe. A black band across the top carries the title; another across the foot carries the CBS ELECTRONICS block and a single Spanish line - CASSETTE DE VIDEO JUEGOS PARA CBS COLECOVISION - with CBS, ColecoVision and the Kenia badge beneath it.
Kenia is a company, not a country. Kenia Sociedad Anónima was the Buenos Aires firm that held the licence to sell the ColecoVision in Argentina. These cartridges have nothing to do with Kenya. Kenia 2 is not a European box with a badge on it. The foot has been reset for one market: where a CBS2 carton runs its cartridge description in four languages and a CBS3 in five, this runs it once, in Spanish. The grey pinstripe is gone, and black bands top and bottom take its place. That single Spanish line is the tell, and it is legible in almost any photograph, which makes Kenia 2 the easier of the two designs to identify at a distance. The Kenia badge sits in the same place as on Kenia 1. Fewer titles are recorded in this design than in Kenia 1. Whether that reflects a shorter print run or simply what has survived is not something the museum can answer yet.

About this listThese records come from the museum’s ColecoVision catalogue, so this page grows as the catalogue does. Box scans, release years and rarity are the catalogue’s; the classification on each card is either the box variant recorded against that title or, where none is recorded, an attribution taken from how the release is filed. Box classification is a collectors’ convention rather than anything Coleco or CBS ever printed on a box, and reasonable references disagree at the edges. If you own something listed here that does not match what you see, or a box that is not listed at all, please get in touch — a photograph of the front is worth more than any description. |
